| Two Facilities Recognized for Outstanding Security Practices
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 30, 2009--
L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that two of its
facilities have received a 2009 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial
Security Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense
Security Service (DSS). The Cogswell Award recognizes industrial
security excellence and is the highest honor a company can receive for
excellence in the handling of classified information.
L-3’s SSG Tinsley facility in Wilmington, Mass. and its TCS facility in
Warner Robbins, Ga. were two of 14 recipients of this year’s award,
selected from a field of 12,500 contractor sites. Cogswell Award
criteria focus on principles of industrial security excellence. Factors
include establishing and maintaining a security program that far exceeds
the basic National Industrial Security Program requirements and
providing leadership to other cleared facilities in establishing best
practices while maintaining the highest standards for security.

The Cogswell Award, established in 1966, is named in honor of the late
Air Force Col. James S. Cogswell, the first chief of industrial security
within the Department of Defense. Cogswell was responsible for
developing the basic principles of the Industrial Security Program,
which included an emphasis on the partnership between industry and
Government to protect classified information.
